The Barn

After a cold day out, it was lovely to arrive at a clean cottage with the heating already on. It's a gorgeous little place for a couple's getaway, tucked somewhere quiet with a stream and woodland walk just a two-minute walk away. The wooden floors throughout are handy with a dog. There's no garden, but a little village green in front of the property works for dog toileting.

We first stayed here while house hunting a few years ago, and loved the village enough to buy a house here. The accommodation was clean, homely, and just what we wanted, in a beautiful spot. The hosts were friendly and really helpful. There are plenty of walks nearby, plus a cafe serving locally sourced produce and award-winning cheese. Barnard Castle is only a short drive away and well worth a visit.

We've stayed three times and are already looking forward to coming again next year. It's a cosy, peaceful cottage in woodland, with amenities a few miles away and plenty of local attractions to see. The place has everything you need, including bedding and towels, so just bring food and clothes. If a quiet break away from it all is what you're after, this is ideal. The hosts live next door, but give you space and are around if needed. Great value, too.

Spotlessly clean, with everything we needed, and the setting is beautiful. Such a gorgeous place.
