Middle Woodbatch Farm

The campsite is a great spot to unwind, with amazing views across the South Shropshire hills. I spent three days there in July. The facilities were excellent, with lovely showers, clean toilets and plenty for a site of that size. Campers can also use the fridge, kettle, microwave and toaster in the kitchen. From the farm, it’s a pleasant 30-minute walk along a very quiet country lane into Bishops Castle, a pretty town with a small Co-op supermarket and lots of nice places to eat. The field is on a bit of a slope, which is to be expected in the Shropshire hills, but otherwise I couldn’t fault it. At £9 per adult, it was the best £27 I’ve ever spent!

At night the sky is full of stars, and sitting cosily by the fire pit to take it in is lovely. The farm sits up a little hill, so there are stunning views from the campsite. Campers can use the fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle, and the toilet and shower block was clean and well maintained. We loved it here and thoroughly recommend it.

We came here for proper time together, away from the rush of work, and spent the evenings watching the stars. We weren’t disappointed: thousands of stars and lots of shooting stars, with the animals making noises nearby at night. Such a relaxing atmosphere, and we’d definitely return. The facilities were lovely and clean, especially the toilets and shower block, and everyone was really friendly and accommodating. You can book a large breakfast for under a fiver the day before, and there are evening meals too, including vegetarian options. A bag of dry firewood costs £3 and lasts around two nights without smoking too much. There were quite a few children when we visited. There’s no play area, but they all seemed happy. Cows were in one field, sheep and a horse in the other, and chickens by the shower block. The drive down to the farm is long and single lane, ideally suited to a four by four, though our old Zafira managed it fine.

We had a lovely overnight stop at Middle Woodbatch B&B on the way to the Royal Welsh Show. The farm is beautiful and secluded, the rooms were excellent, and breakfast was great. Mary and Steve are superb hosts. We’ll stay again.
