Hampton by Hilton Blackburn

Caitlin, Ellie and Marcella made my stay at Hampton by Hilton Blackburn special. They were warm, professional and attentive across breakfast, housekeeping and reception. Any questions I had were answered promptly and helpfully, always with a smile. Their teamwork and care put other Hampton by Hilton hotels I’ve stayed at, including Blackpool and Leeds City Centre during the festive period, to shame. They’re a real credit to this hotel and the Hilton brand, and management should be proud. I had a wonderful stay and wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Blackburn. Free parking and lots nearby made this a handy place to stay, and it was very reasonable for what I paid. I was there Saturday night, near the main road for where I needed to be. The hotel was modern and clean, with friendly, helpful staff. The bar area was nice, and breakfast was great: buffet-style with lots of choice, including hot food, cereals, toast, yogurts, fruit and pastries. The coffee was decent too. Family members stayed in other rooms on separate bookings, and they all enjoyed it as well. I’ll stay again next time.

We used the hotel as a base while travelling around the area, first hiking the Tolkien Trial and then heading to Liverpool. It was about 30 minutes from the trail and an hour from Liverpool, and worked really well for us. The rate was among the cheapest nearby, with breakfast included. The rooms were modern, clean and comfortable, with what we needed for a short stay: towels, shower soap, hot drinks and a mini fridge. Breakfast wasn’t fancy, but there was a good spread to fill up on, and you could go back for more as often as you liked. It was a comfortable, well-located place for our trip, and we’d stay again if we’re in the area.

A horrible two-night stay, and I wouldn’t recommend it. The room never had properly hot water, only lukewarm. Air conditioning wouldn’t go above 23 degrees, and staff made promises to fix it that weren’t kept. There was no water bottle in the room either. Breakfast was a mess: dirty tables, no cutlery and no food during the rush. Staff need proper training. A woman tried to barge into our room three times, and at 12.30 a staff member came to tell me to leave, even though I was staying two nights. This Hilton is very basic and nothing works. You’d genuinely be better off at Premier Inn for the basics, or driving another 30 minutes and staying in Manchester. Go elsewhere!
