The room was quiet despite being in the town centre, and the blackout curtains worked really well. Temperature and facilities were good, the breakfast was decent, and I slept very well. The car park can be easy to miss: it's outside Blackburn Youth Zone, reached by a small lane on the left just past it when coming from the railway station. Register your car at reception. I’m pretty sure there’s a flat, wheelchair-friendly route from the car park to the front desk. There were a few snags. The receptionist had trouble setting up the key cards because the equipment was temperamental, I had to ask for a second towel, and the paintwork in the room looked worn and could use a refresh. Still, everything was fine on the whole.

Our large twin room had a practical, well-designed layout and good soundproofing inside. From the windows there was a lovely view of Blackburn Cathedral with Checks and Greys Café.

Breakfast was better than expected and came out quickly, which was handy on a business trip. The town centre location is convenient, and having parking was genuinely useful. Those were the good parts of my four nights at Premier Inn Blackburn. The room seemed to have given up on cleanliness, and the sheets had mysterious stains. There was no way to ventilate the room, and after a few meals of classic English food, some fresh air would have been very welcome. The towels and linens stayed exactly as I found them throughout the stay, a model of consistency, if nothing else. If the quintessential British business hotel is your thing, this may be the dream. It certainly delivered a very authentic version of that experience. Whether that’s good or bad is for future guests to decide.

I usually stay at campsites, and the room cleanliness here was below par by comparison. I felt like I needed to wash my hands after touching the sockets or light switches. The bathroom was grubby, with stains everywhere.

The area was peaceful and quiet, yet close to the town centre and train station. Staff were very nice, and the rooms were decent and clean. A very good stay.
