The room itself was nice and comfortable, with a clean bathroom, and the ongoing renovation is probably needed. But this is not a dog-friendly hotel in any meaningful sense. Dogs are allowed, yet there was no bed, blanket, treat or even water bowl for ours. The only sign of preparation was a “four legged family member inside” door hanger, and they charged £20 for bringing the dog. At breakfast, dogs can’t go into the dining room. The seating area outside was comfortable enough, but we happened to arrive between food restocks and had to keep peeking in like scavengers to see if there was anything to eat. If you come by public transport, it’s a bit of a trek up a hill and out of the way. You’re likely to pass nicer, more dog-friendly hotels on the way. This was our second visit, and the experience was the same as last year. We didn’t choose to stay this time, it was an itison gift we didn’t want to waste, because we love visiting pitlochry. We’ll keep coming back to the area, but we won’t spend our money staying here again.

The Hydro staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful, and the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and changing facilities were excellent. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast too, with plenty to choose from. Our room and the sitting room next to it were both spacious and warm, with a TV in each. The hotel has a big lounge and bar, and its art deco style gives the place its own charm. Saturday night entertainment was jolly, and we’d stay again. Our first impression was that the hotel looked shabby and dated. Nobody told us that parts were being renovated.

The pool and gym were excellent, the food was good, and the staff were lovely and very accommodating. Some parts of the hotel look tired, as they do in many places, but work is underway to freshen them up. Great job, I’d definitely recommend it and come back.

Our room looked recently refurbished, was really spacious and had a fantastic view. The buffet breakfast was fab, with something for everyone, and the bar staff were brilliant. One guy in particular went above and beyond. Refurbishment work was still happening, but it didn’t cause us any problems. We’d definitely stay again.

We booked half board thinking we’d eat out some evenings, but there was no need: the evening meals were very good, and the breakfast was first class. We had four fantastic days at the Pitlochry Hydro, with great value and a great location. Brittany in the dining room was especially welcoming. We recommend staying here and will return.
