Bamford House

The room itself was tidy and clean, though we never met the host, which was disappointing. When we arrived Friday teatime, the weather was awful and we were a little delayed. The host was at the doctor’s, which was fair enough, so we waited in the car. After the first door opened, we phoned and were told where to find the key. There was nobody around when we left either, so we put it back where we’d found it. No one was there to ask for more tea, coffee or milk, though we could have phoned. We’d stayed here a few years ago, but I don’t think it’s the same people now.

Room 8 was unbelievably noisy. Phone calls started at 5am and woke everyone up. We never saw the owners, and during our four nights the bedding and towels weren’t changed once. The shower drain stank and had mould around it. I also think British safety standards might shut the place down over the ceiling tiles, which I thought were banned in the UK. What an absolute pit. Don’t stay here.

The room, shower room and bedding were clean, but that was about the only good thing. We dumped our bags and stayed out for most of the day, only coming back to shower and get ready for the evening. The reception was dark, dingy and smelly, and we weren’t shown to our room, just handed a key and told to leave it in the room in the morning. My partner had booked this as a surprise night away and looked gutted. I’m no snob, but the place was awful. We slept badly because of noise from other guests and were gone by 8.30am without seeing anyone. I can see why.

The room was comfy, and the staff were really friendly and ready to help. It’s a lovely little place in a handy spot. There wasn’t WiFi in the rooms, only downstairs, and the TV on the wall was tiny. Neither bothered me much since I wasn’t in the room for long.
