Go somewhere else. When we arrived to check in, the man made us wait ten minutes while he finished smoking. Then, at 5:15, he said the rooms weren't ready and asked us to give him 15 minutes. We ended up waiting 45. In the room, the window was hanging out and let in a draught at night, and the door wouldn't lock properly. The big radiator didn't work, so a small heater had been put halfway up the wall. There was no TV remote, and after we found a worker because there was nobody at reception and no way to contact anyone, he said he knew about it. He offered to call someone, walked down the street, and never came back. We borrowed a remote from another guest, but the TV had no signal. The other guest's TV did work, though it buzzed terribly loudly. Some rooms had no curtains or blinds. My friend's shower didn't work at all. The bed was uncomfortable, and the pillow felt like concrete wrapped in a sheet. There were no spare toilet rolls, sheets, or pillows. The room badly needed redecorating, with cracks and damaged exterior areas papered over. They left a candle burning in reception all night, and when we asked why, we were told it was for fragrance. There's a lift, but it doesn't work. The bar had seen better days and badly needed dusting and vacuuming. The beach is directly across from the hotel, but it's about two and a half miles from the main promenade. I wouldn't stay again.

We waited outside for a long time around 3:00 AM with the children, but nobody answered our calls or opened the door. There was no response at all. We then searched nearby for another hotel, but nothing was available at that hour. It was stressful and difficult after a long journey. Before booking, we'd clearly told the hotel that we were travelling a long way with kids and expected to arrive around 3:00 AM. They specifically assured us that we could check in until 5:00 AM, but the hotel was completely unresponsive when we arrived. This was unacceptable and very irresponsible. I ask that appropriate action be taken over the experience.

The receptionist was fantastic and went out of his way to help us after our hotel was cancelled and we had to book at the last minute. Unfortunately, our room had been trashed the night before and had a few problems. The place is dated, but it is Blackpool, after all.

The shower took a little while to heat up, but worked perfectly once it did. My room was tidy, clean, and everything in it worked. I'd read several reviews mentioning dirty rooms and doors that were broken or wouldn't lock, so I was unsure about booking Harlands Hotel. My stay turned out quite pleasant, and I'm glad I gave it a chance. It was much better than those reviews led me to expect.

The only part of the holiday that made it somewhat pleasant was the beach. The rooms have paper-thin walls, so you can hear everything from next door. The kitchen smelled awful, looked appalling, and everything was dirty, expired, and attracting flies.
