The room was clean enough, but tired: peeling wallpaper, handprints by the door and a general sense of age. The wall art was nice, and the bed was comfortable. There were paper cups for tea and coffee, plastic water glasses, and a small fridge. They’d left milk along with tea, coffee and sugar. The duvet and pillowcases were crumpled and unironed. We had two clean but well-used bath towels and one hand towel, and there was no blind on the bathroom window. The hotel was cheap, as my husband expected, though he would write a different review and said it could be worse. He’d based the booking on older reviews describing a family-run place and a beautiful breakfast, but it isn’t family-run now. The friendly man who welcomed us manages six hotels and travels between them, so we waited at the front until he arrived after we rang the number on the door. He showed us the room, asked if it was okay and assured us there were no hen or stag parties. There weren’t any. The street itself gave us a bad first impression. Some properties were rundown, boarded up or being renovated, and even the church was boarded up, though there were still a few B&Bs along the road. I keep hearing, “What do you expect in Blackpool?” He read reviews without checking their dates. I wouldn’t recommend the place or stay again.

It was quiet and very good value, and my friends and I thought this was the best of the many Blackpool B&Bs we’ve tried. The owners were friendly, and the room was large, clean and tastefully decorated, with a big TV and a small fridge. It’s handy for shops, restaurants and pubs. We’ll definitely stay here again.

We had a nice welcome and a clean room in a good central spot. Our family suite had twin beds in a separate room, with an en suite off the main bedroom.

The place was very clean and tidy, but I wouldn’t stay again because it doesn’t suit me. Our bedrooms had no doors, and as a disabled person I found it extremely cold at night. I didn’t sleep at all; I got dressed and climbed back into bed fully clothed, which was very uncomfortable. We didn’t see the owners after check-in.

Our double room, Painted Lady, was much bigger and airier than we expected, with solid wood furniture, loads of storage and wooden hangers. The bed was comfortable, and the huge wall-mounted smart TV was easy to watch from either the bed or the seating area. The en suite was spacious, with soap and shampoo supplied, and there was also a hairdryer and small cooling fan. Breakfast was a freshly made, tasty full English. We arrived at about 13:00 on Friday 18th September 2020. Check-in wasn’t officially until after 15:00, but Darren, the B&B proprietor, had texted beforehand to say our room was ready. He showed us around and explained the usual B&B house rules. He was friendly, welcoming and easy to talk to. Darren reserved us a parking bay behind the property. The back alley was a bit untidy because people had left rubbish there, but that wasn’t the B&B’s fault. The location was excellent, around a five-minute walk to the town centre, with pubs, clubs and convenience stores close by. We found nothing to fault during our two nights at La Papillon B&B. It was a brilliant stay for a very reasonable price, and I’m happy to recommend it.
