The room’s own bathroom, tea and coffee, comfortable pillows, clean sheet and the offer of help with our bags were some good points. It’s in a handy location by Pleasure Beach and a tram stop, and staff were there to check us in. The welcome wasn’t exactly cheery, though, and they couldn’t take card payments yet, saying they were waiting for the machine. The booking said parking was available, but it costs £10 a day if you want to access your car, a ludicrous extra for guests and a lot to add to a budget stay. Towels cost extra too, as stated on the booking, so we brought our own. Room 6 was a box room with a double bed pushed against the wall, far too cramped and better suited to one person. There was a single wardrobe, drawers and a bedside table, but nowhere to put the table beside the bed. The drawers had oily-looking stains and hair inside. Cleanliness across the room was poor: dust, used razor caps, dirty and damaged curtains, damp ceiling patches, damaged wallpaper, a dusty bed base, brown marks on the duvet cover, coffee marks on the tray and cups, no mattress protector, and a dirty bathroom floor that hadn’t been swept. The bed felt like a brick and was extremely uncomfortable. Noise was another problem. Music and the DJ could be heard throughout the hotel, and our room vibrated. We were going out, so it didn’t affect us too much, but when we got back around 11:45, voices and quieter bar music were still quite clear for a while. The walls seemed very thin. We could hear every sniff and cough next door, then the upstairs guests having sex in the early hours. Their bed squeaked so much that I can say without hesitation it must have been in as bad a state as ours. After struggling to get back to sleep on our brick of a bed, with hall lights shining under the door, we got an early wake-up from the upstairs guests apparently trying to finish off that clapped-out bed. We gave up and checked out well before we had to, feeling like a pair of cripples after a night on that brick. Reception was shut when we left, with no staff in sight to take the keys, so we left them on the counter. We noticed a lot of signage still said sinatras, so I assume the hotel was recently taken over and can only hope the current owners address these problems. We received a less than savoury response to our review. We won’t be back, avoid at all costs.

The showers were disgraceful, and the place is outdated, badly in need of a refurb and new plumbing. They charge £1 for a towel and £10 per day for parking if you want access to your own car during your stay. Then after we got home, we found they’d taken £235 from our card. Shocking place. A three-star hotel is an absolute joke, borderline one or two stars at best. Unless I get the money back, I’ll be contacting the police.

We booked one night for the weekend. The rooms and shower room were clean, but nobody on the booking sites told us hotel parking would cost £10 per night. My partner lost his keys and I called the hotel to ask if they could let us in. I rang the contact number 20 times with no answer and no voicemail option. We eventually got the keys dropped off to us.

The beds are somewhat comfortable, but towels cost extra and online bookings don’t include breakfast. When the place is empty, there’s no bar or entertainment either. Choose somewhere else if you want food and entertainment at the hotel.

It’s a clean hotel, and that’s the only good thing. Residents have to pay £10 a day to use the car park. There’s no soap in the toilet, and even a shower towel costs £1 to rent. Breakfast is only served from 9 to 9:30, and the bar closes at 9:30, so don’t expect a late drink. Remember BELLA VISTA in ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES?
