The Alviston Hotel

Colin & kath are marvellous and can’t be faulted, especially as they’re running the hotel on their own. Breakfasts were nice and the bar prices very good, though there’s no draught beer or lager, just bottles and cans. It’s cheap enough for a couple of nights and handy for all the amenities. The hotel badly needs updating and lots of repairs. Take warm clothes, as there was no heating on and we were freezing at night. We were also unlucky to have a gang of lads staying there. They drank in their rooms all night, then ran and shouted around the hotel at 4am and knocked on people’s doors, so we didn’t get much sleep. I don’t think I’d return.

We had booked a weekend at the Alvistan hotel but couldn’t go because our two youngest boys had chicken pox. As a family, we were so disappointed. I called and spoke to Kath, who was incredibly kind. She felt so sorry for us that she returned half our deposit, even though she really didn’t have to. She also sent a lovely letter wishing the boys well and telling me to keep my chin up, as I was run down and upset about missing the trip. We didn’t stay, so I can’t comment on the hotel itself, but the staff were amazing. Thank you, Alvistan hotel, for making a difficult, disappointing time a bit easier. 😀😀

The room was absolutely disgusting and generally dirty. The shower head had red and green gunk on it. There was barely room to move, and if you’re a big-built chap, you’ll struggle to open the door to get into the tiniest john going. Auld Basil and Sybil don’t seem too keen on cleaning their hotel rooms.

The owners David cathedral and derrick are awesome and keep checking that we’re enjoying our stay. The food is great and the digs are cheap. My two teenagers and I are here for a week, and it’s an amazing hotel. Thanks for everything, you’re the best. We’ll definitely come back to stay again xxx
