The Kings Cross Hotel

The host was great, and there was a bar and a fab games room for the kids. It's very close to the attractions, just five minutes from the front. We're always looking for family-friendly hotels because my eldest has additional needs, and this looked amazing online and lived up to it when we arrived. Our first room had a small leak from the ceiling, which wasn't surprising with storm Amy, but the host quickly sorted us another room. It was a lovely size for a family of five, though there are things that need updating. There are plenty of signs saying refurbishment is underway, so we'll definitely be back.

The burgers were absolutely delicious, made with quality ingredients and worth the price. The rooms were very small but clean, and the bed was firm. I slept well, though a kettle would have been a nice extra. Connor gave us a very friendly welcome and, even while extremely busy, was attentive and accommodating. I'm shocked and annoyed by the one-star reviews that blame staff for things outside their control. Our group would all stay again. Great service, a warm welcome and a decent night's sleep, what more can I ask for? Massive thanks to all the staff.

We decided to leave without staying, even though the gentleman who checked us in was very friendly and welcoming. After a long journey, my husband urgently needed the toilet, but the gentleman showed us around before letting us get to our room. The room was tiny and not nice, with hairs on the duvet cover, and the bathroom was even smaller. I know it's a budget hotel, but a little bar of soap would have been more useful to me than the extensive spirits menu. I've never paid for a night somewhere and then walked out, which says it all.

We didn't stay. The room was tiny and shabby, with a grubby bathroom, stained bed cover and no headboard, just dirty wallpaper. The mattress was so bad we could feel every spring, there wasn't even space for a chair, and the place smelled of weed. We had to pay for tea and coffee. While waiting for a taxi, we saw a drug dealer selling to a guest, and reported it to the police. When we complained to Nautica, she said it was a budget hotel and that's what you get. No, Nautica, this is a doss house. The first four photos showed what we expected, the next three showed what we actually got. Do yourselves a favour and go elsewhere. The budget hotel description on Google says they provide basics like comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, WiFi, and complimentary breakfast and hot drinks, alongside essential amenities.
