The door eventually opened, but it took us repeated tries over at least 20 minutes, and it still seemed to work only at random. We were told the handle was "temperamental" without being shown how to use it. Even after a message saying maintenance would come, nobody arrived before we left, and we heard nothing further from Dockside Lodge or Booking.com. We weren't sure we could safely leave and get back in, so my boyfriend and I gave up our evening plans and lost a booking. We also decided against going out to our event the next day. We spent more than three hours trying to sort things out with Dockside Lodge and Booking.com. Three Booking.com agents were polite, but didn't seem to know what to do. The offer of £15 back if we canceled the second night felt paltry. There was no apology for the delay or acknowledgement that the door wasn't working properly. Basic customer safety didn't seem to be taken seriously, and paying what we did without reliable access to the property felt like daylight robbery. This should have been fixed beforehand, and I wouldn't recommend staying there. We arrived in a very industrial area, with a bag of poo by the entrance. Before we managed to get in, we tried contacting the out-of-hours number on WhatsApp and got no response at first. We felt stuck somewhere that didn't feel safe.

The bathroom was nice, but there was so much dirt on one bedside table that you could write in it. The bedroom furniture needed dusting before we arrived, and it made me wonder about the overall cleanliness. We only used the hotel as a base for one night, so it wasn't a major issue for us. There's not much around in the way of amenities, and the location is pretty poor if you want to pop out nearby. That isn't the hotel's fault, and an Uber into Liverpool centre cost us about £8 for a five-minute ride. For the price, it was fine. I probably wouldn't stay again, though it might suit travellers who just need an inexpensive bed for the night.

The room was clean, and there was a clean communal kitchen available. The bathroom door wouldn't close properly. The location isn't great without a car, though it's not far from the city centre if you're driving. All in all, it's a decent place and good value. We arrived in the evening unsure how to use the door codes. By chance, the woman in charge came by for something else and told us she hadn't been informed about our booking or that our room wasn't ready. She showed us how to use the codes, so we left our bags and went into the city centre for a while before returning.

The room was clean, and the kitchen had everything needed to prepare your own food and save money. It's a comfortable, inexpensive place to stay in Liverpool. The dockside neighborhood outside was ugly and smelled of factories, though we felt safe. My main complaint was that the internet didn't work well.

This is my go-to place whenever I'm in Liverpool. I was excited to book again after the change in management, and the new management is amazing. Getting in is easy: I have my own code for the front door and room. The Wi-Fi works well, and the room was in perfect condition as always. The kitchen is big enough to store things, which was handy since I stayed over the weekend and wanted to cook. Five stars!
