The Old Coach House

The Old Coach House is in a brilliant spot for exploring the area, right by the lively Napoleon Inn, where there was plenty of music and events. Jackie was a marvellous host, always checking we had what we needed and making us feel at home. Our rooms were spotless, cosy and lovely, and the home-cooked breakfast had lots of options. We had a wonderful time a few weeks ago and are hoping to come back next year.

I booked one night at The Old Coach House through Booking.com for April ‘26, as part of a coastpath walk, and the booking was confirmed. The next day the owner messaged me through Booking, saying they were away and completely closed then, and asking me to cancel. Closed at Easter, right at the start of the season? Surely not? I cancelled as requested, but now I see April bookings are available if you stay at least two nights. It seems the owner would rather say they were closed than admit the mistake of accepting a one-night booking and honour it. I would have paid a premium for one night compared with a two-night stay, more than enough to cover preparing the room. I believe Booking.com contracts require owners to honour bookings except in exceptional circumstances, such as non-payment. This felt like nasty, slippery and manipulative behaviour. Not a good look for a hospitality business.

The location was peaceful and a great base for exploring nearby places. We found the welcome warm and attentive without it ever feeling intrusive. Our room was spotless, beautifully decorated and very comfortable, and breakfast was fresh and delicious. For the quality and experience, it was excellent value and worth every penny. Our stay was flawless from beginning to end.

Jacqueline was so friendly and knew the local area well. The bed was extremely comfortable, and we had a lovely room and a great breakfast. We received a warm welcome, and the location was great. Wonderful hospitality.
