Best Western Montague Hotel

Breakfast was delicious and really high quality, and having a lift made getting around so easy. The room was lovely and the location was great. Staff were fab, too, and kindly sent back medication we’d accidentally left behind. Parking was available. One side of the bed wasn’t great, and I’d have preferred a shower to a bath. We’d happily recommend the place and stay again.

We got a really warm welcome, and even though check-in was meant to be at 2pm, our room was ready when we arrived at 11. That was brilliant and let us get settled early. The hotel was very clean, and everyone was friendly. It’s about a five-minute walk to the beach and ten minutes to Bournemouth Centre. We’d recommend it and will come back.

We travelled with our 8 month old son, and the staff were so helpful: they opened doors, heated baby food without fuss, and had a highchair ready at breakfast. Our room was spacious, extremely clean, and lovely, with a sparkling ensuite, a good-sized flat screen TV, and plenty of tea and coffee. We arrived about an hour before check-in, but the receptionist let us in because the rooms were ready. Breakfast was a nice start to the day, with a good continental buffet and a full English cooked to order. The English breakfast was warm and tasty. There’s a bar by the front reception, where we stopped each day for a quiet drink and a sit-down. Happy hour runs 2pm - 7 pm, or really, happy hours. We stayed for three nights from 26/06/18. The place is close to the beach, doesn’t break the budget, and was a pleasure to stay in. A wonderful little gem if you need somewhere in Bournemouth.

For £100 a night, I expected better. There were damp patches on the walls, a dripping tap, a broken chain on the bath plug, and the shower temperature kept swinging from boiling to freezing because it wasn’t thermostatic. The staff were friendly and the bed was comfortable, but the breakfast was only acceptable for a 2 star hotel at £60 a night. This place might have been the one to visit in 1988, but it feels stuck in that era, with very little done to it.
