The bed was nice, the room was clean, and the staff were lovely. It was quiet, though I don’t think many people were there over the Christmas holiday. The building is very old and badly needs refurbishing, but it was good value. Our only complaint was the outlets: there were loads on the opposite wall, but none by the bed. My husband uses a CPAP, so we needed one there, and it seemed especially odd to have so many sockets but none where we needed them.

We stopped in for lunch, and the sandwiches were disappointing. There weren’t any specials advertised inside. After we’d ordered, the barmaid told us there was an offer if we’d ordered together. She then spent half an hour arguing loudly with two male staff members about her job. I had to go over and ask them to keep it down so we could try to enjoy lunch.

While I was in the pub, I kept hearing that none of the staff had been paid their wages. The new owners are doing a terrible job, and the place has gone downhill badly.

The staff were nice, but the room and bedsheets both stank. The bathroom was dirty, with something awful on the floor, and huge fans outside the window were still running at 11:30.
