Mayfield Hotel

For £150 on a weekend in mid-August, the price felt good, especially with the beach within walking distance, and it left us more money to spend during the stay. We went for two nights with our one-year-old, and they provided a travel cot for free. The facilities were very basic but covered what we needed. Our access code was wrong, but we had the welcome information by text and the number we called was answered straight away. We only realised after the first night that we could use the kitchen. Someone there to explain things when you arrive would make a big difference.

It's an old Victorian house turned into a hotel, with no ventilation, no lights, and not all rooms have attached bathrooms. There was no hotel staff, security was very poor, and the door locks were broken. They had mentioned having a restaurant before booking, but there isn't one. The place is far from the beaches and housekeeping was almost nonexistent. The information they gave us before booking was fake, and they robbed us of our money. The worst part of my trip. Don't stay here unless you want your trip to become a nightmare. They're cheaters and cheap people out to snatch your money.

I found a room for two with an ensuite just a few hours before check-in at a very reasonable price. The manager/owner and their family were friendly and helpful. My second-floor room was decent, with a toilet, clean bedding, a fresh towel, soap and a small TV with free channels, though the Wi-Fi was poor. Breakfast isn't free. The hotel is very close to the train station, Asda and town, with lots of takeaways and restaurants nearby. Overall, I was happy.

The place didn't feel clean, and the room was stuffy. The shower only trickled and didn't work properly, and the free Wi-Fi wouldn't work either. They even advertise a colour TV as a facility, for goodness' sake. I wouldn't stay here again.
