Loved this place. The service was fantastic, everyone was on top of things, and the food was delicious. It’s close to the train station, in the heart of the city, with walking paths and cafes nearby. Not a single thing to complain about, five stars all the way.

Breakfast was a highlight: a generous full English, cooked nicely, presented well, and brought out quickly. The bar was stylish and full of atmosphere, with a good choice of food and drinks and attentive staff. We spent the night at Timbrell's Yard and had a great time from the moment we met Maisy. She showed us to our room and cheerfully answered all our questions. Room 202 had two levels and was spotless and tidy. The bed was very clean and comfortable, the TV was a decent one, and the bright bathroom was clean and well presented, with a good shower. Stay here, you won’t be disappointed. They’re doing it right.

We booked through Mr & Mrs for the bank holiday weekend and were allocated room 301. There were a few good points: the dog friendly policy, thick blackout curtains, large bath sheets, and a bathroom sensor light that came on at night. The pop up bakery runs on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, though you need to get there early because things sell out. We also ate at the restaurant one evening. The burger and focaccia were nice, but the pizza was disappointing, wet and thin in the middle. The main issue was the bed. I’d phoned weeks ahead to request the super king listed as an option alongside twin beds, and the receptionist confirmed we’d have it. We didn’t. The bed we got was small and sloped towards the middle, which made it uncomfortable and not what we’d asked for or were used to. The walls were thin, so we could hear the restaurant and people in the room opposite dropping or knocking things and running water. There was no room safe or fridge. The shower pressure could have been better, especially since the sink tap had very strong pressure. The bathroom had boxes of spare items like toothbrushes, ear plugs and an eye mask, but most were empty and hadn’t been replenished after the previous guests. There are only five hotel parking spaces, so it’s luck whether you get one. Reception didn’t take our number plate to check that the cars there belonged to guests. Otherwise, you can use the paid car parks beside the hotel or at the station. Although our room was on the ground floor, we had to climb about six steps and go down about four. There was no dog Goody Pack in our room. I’m not sure if those are only provided when booking directly with the hotel.

We enjoyed our few nights here and the service was great. The rooms were very clean. The beds were very hard, which seems common in Europe, and the restaurant could get noisy on weekends. We’d still recommend booking here.

There’s a cold buffet plus hot dishes made to order for breakfast, and both were included in the price. Vegan options are available too. My room was large and comfortable, and it was easy to park once I’d registered at the desk. I’d definitely recommend staying here.
