Cherry Tree Lodge

Avoid this place. My wife, our four-year-old son and I had travelled from Devon for a wedding reception in Shipley, and booked the Cherry Tree Lodge. When we reached the B&B after leaving the reception at 9:30 pm, nobody was there. We called the mobile number on the door, but got no answer. A text then said they’d be late. I called again at 11:10 pm and still got no answer. My partner and son had fallen asleep in the car. At 11:35, a red car pulled up. A woman looked at us and went inside, but we didn’t know if she was the owner or a guest. We ended up sleeping in the car all night. We’d paid £49 with no breakfast, since we were leaving early to return to Devon. In the morning I took a photo of the B&B. A heavy-set woman came out and gave me a lot of abuse. She said I’d seen her arrive the night before, then photographed my car. I’ll be contacting the council about this behaviour.

Some of the reviews we read while searching made the place sound frightening, as if it might not be what you expect. At cherrytree lodge, though, what you see is what you get: a cosy guest house with a great breakfast. My husband was impressed that guests had Wi-Fi, and the staff were the best I’ve ever seen. My room was very clean and comfortable. It’s conveniently close to the village metro, with plenty of good restaurants within walking distance.

The bed was uncomfortable, the TV had poor satellite reception, and we didn’t get much of a welcome. The bedrooms were cold when we arrived, though that was fixed by the second night. There was only half a pint of milk in the fridge for three people for a week, and the one lady we saw seemed to be the only staff member. She only accepts cash. Would I return? No.

We felt warmly welcomed at this lovely B&B. The hosts were great, and the stay was superb value for money. Thank you!
