The Highfield

The staff were efficient, friendly, and excellent, both at the hotel and in the bar next door. The pub had a great atmosphere and was lovely, although it could use a little updating. I was surprised it closed at 9:30. We stayed for a couple of days. The room was big, the bed was comfortable, and it was fine overall, though a bit of decorating would bring it up to date. It felt like stepping back into the seventies.

The Leisure Club was brilliant, very clean, and staffed by lovely people. My only gripe is that the TV could be bigger. I left after a brilliant three-week stay at Highfield. The room was comfortable and kept clean, with a comfortable bed, warmth, and fresh towels and toiletries whenever needed. It was very peaceful, and the staff were so friendly and helpful that nothing seemed too much trouble. Thanks so much for making it a pleasant stay. I can't recommend you enough, and we'll be back next February. A big thank you to Annie and family.

The Highfield pub next door had a great range of food and drinks, including plenty of gluten-free options we enjoyed. Cafes, supermarkets, and restaurants are also only a five-minute walk away. We stayed at the Highfield Hotel for three nights while visiting family nearby. Our family room was lovely, spacious, and clean, with tea and coffee facilities, a TV with Netflix and Prime, and lots of wardrobe and drawer space. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. We'll stay here again when we come back.

I was disappointed overall, even though the employees were nice enough. The king-size bed was the one good thing, though it's the equivalent of a queen here. The room was a decent size, bigger than the picture suggested, but the bathroom had no hand soap. Staff were rarely at the desk, so I had to look in the bar or restaurant and ask. They weren't sure they had any left, even though we arrived on a Thursday, not after a rush. I got none that night, but there was some outside my door the next morning. The pool was cloudy, with something floating under the surface. I don't know what it was, but it felt like wet paper towel before it breaks down. Wi-Fi only worked in the lobby, and even there it was patchy. The restaurant closes at 8, so if you're out, forget dinner or room service. We had no do-not-disturb or cleaning-request sign for the door, and the TV remote batteries were nearly dead. They had no spares, so an employee took some out of another item. The hallways smelled absolutely horrible.
