We had a relaxing, wonderful stay at The Abbey Farm House in mid May, 2026. Charlotte made us feel at home straight away, and her two lovely, friendly dogs added to that feeling. The rooms were clean and restful, and the food she made was delicious. She can handle gluten free needs while still making everything taste great. We were walking Hadrian's Wall, so the location worked perfectly for us. There's plenty to see on the grounds too, with an old Abbey and a newer church. Our only regret was having to keep walking and not being able to stay another day. If you can, stay a little longer. 5 stars all the way!

Charlotte’s hospitality made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We stayed with her while walking Hadrian’s Wall, and the whole experience went beyond what we expected. The rooms were comfortable, well cared for, and had what a tired walker might need. Dinner and breakfast were highlights, made with fresh, quality ingredients and great value for the money. The setting is breathtaking, the sort of place that makes you stop and take it in. We left feeling rested, well fed, and grateful, and we’ll absolutely come back.

The farmhouse is stunning, with a huge room and bathroom, and everything felt carefully thought through. After a long day walking Hadrians Wall Path, I was glad it wasn’t too far off the route. Charlotte and her two enthusiastic business partners, Magic and Peanut, gave me a warm welcome. Magic did a bit of gentle finger chewing, and Peanut offered a very exciting ball game. Dinner and breakfast were great, and the packed lunch option was much appreciated. It seems to be standard at accommodation along the wall.

The rooms were nicely appointed and the location was lovely, but the way the evening was handled spoiled our night. We said we’d be late for dinner, yet the owner insisted on driving out to pick us up. We then missed part of our hike so we could eat with the other bed and breakfast guests. The host seemed fixated on serving everyone at the same time, with little flexibility for walkers’ changing schedules. Sge asked for my personal location and demanded to know where I was and why I wasn’t on time for dinner. The meal felt forced and awkward, and our host insulted us in front of the other guests. After that, we were told only a bath was available and we would have to “suck it up” instead of getting a shower to clean up after hiking all day. In the morning, the same host refused to take us back to where we had been picked up. It was a bank holiday with no bus service, so we had to backtrack and walk a twenty mile day on the hottest day of the year. The host seemed to know little about hiking or hospitality, which surprised me for someone running a lodge on such a popular hike. I work at a hotel and would have been fired for pulling a stunt like that. The food was also worse than most of what we’d had elsewhere in northern england, at easily twice the price. If you’re hiking hadrians wall, stay somewhere else.

After a long day walking Hadrian’s Wall, I felt comfortable and ready to rest here. The path is very convenient to reach, and the area is beautiful. Charlotte was a lovely host, and the rooms were clean, cozy, and gorgeous. Charlotte made our dinner and breakfast by hand, and both were delicious. I felt renewed for the next day, though I really didn’t want to leave and wish we could have stayed longer. And the two dogs, Magic and Peanut, are adorable and well behaved.
