Tlh Victoria Hotel

The chef was great and really helpful with our dietary needs, and the food was hot, tasty and had lots of choice. We were visiting as guests just for a meal and enjoyed it a lot. Dinner is a buffet, though they bring the main course option to you, which is nice. It was very busy, but all the staff were working hard to look after everyone. Can't wait to go back!

I was really impressed by how helpful and friendly everyone was, from the porters and cleaners to the restaurant, bar and reception teams. I was staying at The Victoria Hotel for a private function and unfortunately left my suitcase behind. They've helped me every step of the way to get it back. The food was lovely too. I'd recommend the hotel mainly because of the staff.

The entertainment was mostly at the Derwent hotel, and the indoor pool was excellent. The indoor bowling arena was brilliant too. It cost £7 for a two-hour session with bowls hire, and we had great fun, so I'd give it a go. The place is a little dated, but all the staff were excellent and couldn't do enough for you. The food was superb, compliments to the chef and team.

The pool, food and leisure activities were all fab, but we won't be back because the room made it impossible to sleep. We checked out today after I managed only two hours last night. The hotel was sweltering, and the room on the third floor was worse even with both windows open and the heating off. The hair dryer, room sockets and shower didn't work. We went to use the pool, came back to shower, and I couldn't dry my hair. Nobody brought a replacement dryer for over an hour, by which time I'd left for dinner as planned. The fan was so loud and rattly that it woke my four-year-old. We asked reception for another and waited 30 minutes for someone to find one, but it was still too hot to sleep. Without my child, I would have packed up and gone home in the middle of the night. In truth, nothing in the room worked. When I reported it at checkout, the receptionist didn't seem to care or apologise for the awful sleep. She said most people said the hotel was too cold, which I can't believe. I was with a group of 20 and they all complained about the heat. She didn't want to listen, and that really let the hotel down, since the other staff had all been great. It's such a shame the rooms spoil the stay.
