We spent every moment enjoying the wildlife around the House of Mark, from guinea fowl and squirrels to all the birds. Sheep even wandered through the front yard and woke us at 5:30. It was just the kind of remote, nature-filled stay we’d hoped for. The rooms are huge, the beds lovely and soft, and the shower was one of the best I’ve had in ages. Ian is a friendly host and a great cook. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent. Dinner costs extra, and the nearest restaurant is a 45-minute drive away, so keep that in mind. If you eat at the House of Mark, Ian won’t disappoint. Meals are served with the other guests in a cozy dining room, which makes it easy to chat if you feel like it. I can’t think of any downsides. We’d definitely return if we get the chance.

Ian made every part of our stay comfortable, and was especially lovely with our two small children, who were completely taken with him. The food was excellent too. House of Mark was the best B&B of our 16-day trip, and we’d love to go back.

Such a lovely, quiet spot for getting away from the busy stuff and spending time in nature. There are plenty of walks, hills and rivers nearby, along with towns and castles to explore. The owner was genuinely nice and quick to respond to any questions or requests, and really went the extra mile. It’d be great for a family holiday. I’d recommend it and would love to return soon.

You can watch woodpeckers and red squirrels while you eat, and the food is good. There are no TVs, which suits the peaceful setting. The B&B is easy to find, with a short walk to Loch Lee and the hills, though the road is private and you can’t drive to the Loch. The owner is helpful, knows the local area well and has lots of ideas for places to visit. Contact them directly for the latest details. There are only three rooms, so book early. A great place if you’re after peace and quiet.

A wonderful location and an amazing host. House of Mark was one of the highlights of our Scotland trip.
