We came back to the Taunton area for an event and wanted somewhere rural but still on the edge of town, so we booked Octon Lodge, just down the road from where we used to live. The furnishings are stunning, with such lovely attention to detail. We stayed in Under the Beech Tree for two nights and could happily have stayed longer. The booking messages, directions for getting in and parking details were all excellent. Absolutely gorgeous, and we'll be back.

We were close enough to town to pick up supplies easily, and the grounds were beautiful. The owners were accommodating, and everything was clean and well looked after. They'd left more toiletries than the usual amount, and they smelled lovely. I've stayed in four places over the past three weeks, and this was easily the best.

The breakfast room looks out over a lovely garden, and breakfast was cooked individually to order. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a separate sitting area that I hadn't expected. There isn't anywhere to have an evening meal on site or in the village, but the owners were marvellous and sorted out a takeaway for us. An excellent place to stay.

We had a lovely weekend in the cosy cottage. The bedroom was really spacious and child-friendly, and the kitchen had all the amenities we needed. Fresh towels were provided, and the owners were very lovely.

A quirky place, but the building rubble piled around the otherwise beautiful gardens was a letdown. The heating seemed to do whatever it wanted, and there's no option for an evening meal. The owners are friendly, if you actually get to meet them, but don't count on getting a reply to emails. Nearby Holiday Inn Express is much better value, though it gets booked up. I do wonder why.
