The locals were really pleasant, and it was clear the place is popular with them. The atmosphere was great. It was a bit chilly inside, as I've found in other pubs, and a couple more degrees of warmth would have helped. Luckily the plates came piping hot and added some heat. I came in for food because most pubs were closed or not serving on the Wednesday I visited. The meal took a while, but it was good and worth waiting for. I liked the raw garlic in the garlic bread. If you're making it, though, I'd toast the baguette with olive oil, rub it with a clove, and add a little parsley for colour. I didn't stay in the accommodation, but a colleague had stayed before and was delighted with it and said they'd use it again.

We live in the village and usually go to the cottage when we eat out locally. After a day out, we came back and decided to try the Ancient Mariner. The service was poor, the food quality was poor, and there was far too much bad language from other customers. We won't eat here again. It's sad to see how much the village has changed.

The Glastonbury bitter on draft was lovely, and the local crowd were interesting and nice. Staff were pleasant, but chaotic and seemed clueless. The food was awful. My fish was hugely overcooked and inedible, and the fries seemed like supermarket ones. Nobody apologized or offered a refund or an alternative. The staff just said, 'Oh.' Why advertise food at all? What happened to the Trades Descriptions Act?

The owners are lovely, and the staff are all so friendly. The pub has a lively atmosphere and a great crowd. There's a spectacular choice of beer and cider, and the prices are good too. The food is outstanding. I'm always here and will keep coming back.

We went in on a Saturday evening and there was very little to choose from. The meal we did have was poor. They didn't bring cutlery until after the food arrived, and nobody checked whether everything was okay. We won't be back.
