The staff were nice and helpful, check-in was easy, and both the bed and bathroom were clean. But £111 for a “deluxe double room” was poor value. My Room 10 was just mediocre, nowhere near deluxe, and the pictures and description didn’t quite match it. The bed was the biggest problem: the mattress was old and uncomfortable, and the slatted base was broken. I have back pain, so coming back to that after work was awful. I ended up using the duvet as a makeshift topper. Was it really repaired with tape? A slatted base costs about £35, which seems the bare minimum for a room at this price. There were no hangers in the wardrobe, and the blackout curtain didn’t cover the whole window. My “deluxe double room” had no bath or extra-long bed, and toiletries were missing at check-in. Staff did give me soap when I asked. In the morning, I could smell sewage or urine as I left the room, which seems to be an issue mentioned in other reviews too. Please provide decent beds and accurate photos for all 14 rooms on the booking site.

I’m writing for my husband, who has just checked out after two nights. He said Room 14 smelled of sewage whenever anyone in the building flushed the toilet. The carpets were filthy, there were burn holes in the bedding, and he didn’t even shower because it was so dirty. He also saw the porter asleep on a camp bed behind the check-in desk. Customers were sitting in the middle of the bar area smoking weed. I wouldn’t stay again even if I were paid to. I can’t understand how this place is open. Never again. I’d give it zero stars if I could.

For one night, you can’t beat the price. It wasn’t a disaster, but the rooms smelled a bit when we went in and it felt strange seeing so many people asleep around reception. When we checked out, we had to wake a poor guy on a camp bed behind the desk. You get what you pay for.

The beds were comfy, the showers were nice, and the hotel was in a good spot. The people working there were friendly, welcoming and had a good sense of humour.

It isn’t accessible for disabled guests. There is a shower and toilet in the room, but getting there means climbing lots of stairs, most without handrails. There are also stairs to the bathroom inside the room, and those have no handrail either.
