The rear car park is right behind the place, and the council subsidises the first two hours on weekdays and parking all day at weekends. We only stopped in for a drink this time, though we’ve eaten here before and would recommend the Sunday lunches. There are steps, but wheelchair-accessible areas can be reached from both the front and rear entrances.

I’ve stayed here several times. The rooms have been clean, tidy and really comfortable each time, and the food is excellent for the price. The hosts and staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Nothing seems too much trouble, and it’s good value across the board.

We’d just missed the food cutoff, which was a shame because it smelled amazing and the portions looked generous. The place was clean, the staff were great and happy to chat, and the beer was good with plenty to choose from. The food looked like proper home cooking.

The first course of garlic mushrooms and the chocolate fudge cake with ice cream were both nice, and £20.95 for three courses seemed reasonable. The Sunday dinner main was the letdown: we’d been looking forward to it, but got one roast potato and one piece of cauliflower, hardly a filling plate. The chicken tasted microwaved, and the beef was like the boil-in-the-bag kind. My wife and I had to move seats three times while large groups arrived with balloons and lots of kids. The staff were friendly, but it wasn’t a great experience.

Breakfast doesn’t start until 9am, even during the week. Who wants to wait around that long at a hotel? It should be served from 7am. Two to three stars at best.
