Such a shame, because the setting is nice. The owner's customer service was appalling: they were rude and never answered the phone. There was no heating in the main room apart from a fan heater or lighting the fire, and the bedroom plug-in heaters were poor. There was little to no storage or hanging space. The Wi-Fi didn't work either.

The stairs run all the way from the basement to the top floor, so this place wouldn't suit older or disabled guests. From upstairs, the view was tree tops and electric pylons, and there were pylons everywhere. We walked the site with our dog, but it was an old industrial area with broken decking dumped in a pile. Inside, the accommodation and kitchen were clean and well appointed, and the bed was reasonably comfortable. The bathroom and shower were clean too. The underfloor heating didn't work, though, and the small heater provided wasn't enough to stop the evening feeling cold.

Our rooms were spacious and clean, with comfortable beds. We also had lovely views over the ponds and canal.

We had a great week here with the family. The four-bed semi-detached lodge was spacious enough for us to fit a dog crate in one of the rooms without an en-suite. Brighouse and Elland are within walking distance, and Halifax is only a short drive away, so the location was excellent. The one downside was the smelly pond next to our lodge. I guess there isn't much that can be done about it.
