Cambridge Hotel Waterfront

Really clean place, and the staff are friendly. The full 5G WiFi seemed quick enough for streaming. Breakfast was fine, though a little more variety would help if you're staying for a week or two. A good place overall.

Breakfast had a good spread: sausages, scrambled eggs, beans, toast, cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt, plus coffee from a machine and juices. The staff were lovely and helpful, and our room stayed very clean with housekeeping coming in each day. We had a great three-night stay and would definitely return.

The location by the stream and ducks was nice, but the town centre was noisy at night. Creaky floorboards and slamming doors kept making us jump, and the room itself felt dated, with cracked walls. The shower and sink, though, were spotless and shiny. There was also a kettle with tea and coffee; no biscuits, but that wasn't a big deal for us. We wouldn't stay here again. We'd travelled for seven hours and arrived to find the hotel hadn't heard from Booking.com about our reservation. Luckily, they had a room free. We were polite, but the receptionist was very rude. Whenever I greeted him, he gave me a strange look and ignored me, which made me uncomfortable. At checkout, nobody said anything, so we simply handed over the key card. We felt unwanted. Breakfast had no choices beyond scrambled eggs, sausages and beans. There was no provision for dietary needs, and nobody greeted us or offered anything. The staff seemed miserable and as though they didn't like their jobs. There was a cockroach in the bathroom.

The hotel's staff were rude and discourteous when I asked for a refund, and the response felt greedy and very unprofessional. I booked through Booking.com, whose website gave the wrong address. Booking.com accepted that this was their mistake and compensated me for the inconvenience, but told me to request the refund directly from the hotel. I explained the situation, but the staff just said they couldn't refund me because it was Booking.com's fault, not theirs. Not customer-focused at all. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.
