Berwick Lodge

The dining room was quite loud, though the atmosphere was good, and the staff were very courteous. We had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Berwick Lodge for a late Valentine's Day, and the food was delicious. We joked that the horseradish sauce needed a health warning because it was so strong, but it certainly cleared your nose. The chocolate tart was delicious too.

The staff were fabulous, attentive to the details and very helpful. They made us feel welcome and cared for, and we happily felt like willing victims of luxury. I took my 87yr old mother for her birthday dinner on a Tuesday night. We both had the tasting menu, with matching wines for my mum. The food was exquisit. We highly recommend thos restaurant.

The staff were all very nice, and the location is lovely, with a very nice restaurant decor. But the afternoon tea was disappointing for the price, £36 or £46 with bubbles. The scones were superb, while the other bits were okay, just a bit meh. The sandwiches were super basic and very plain, with hardly any meat. I love a good tea and have tried places from local cafes up to the Ritz, but this one didn’t live up to the price or venue. Sadly, it was a Christmas present for my mum, and she was underwhelmed too. A bit of a shame.

The birthday touches were lovely. Everyone we spoke to wished my wife a happy birthday, and the chef put a birthday message on her dessert. The staff were lovely, we felt very welcome and well looked after, and no one rushed us. We celebrated her 40th here, looking for somewhere a little upmarket where I could dress up without it being strict formal. It fit the bill perfectly. The restaurant is beautiful, elegant, and decorated really well. The food was spot on, delicious, well cooked, and good-sized portions. There was a choice of tasting menu, a la carte, and brasserie menu, and you could mix dishes between the options if you fancied one of this and another of that. I’d recommend dining here. It was a nice change from the usual places Bristol has to offer.
