The Copper Coin

Breakfast was help yourself, which worked perfectly with our early airport start. The room was spotless, with a large shower, and we slept well in a comfortable bed.

We wanted a comfortable night before continuing our journey, but ended up leaving around 01:00. The room was cold, the kitchen smelled of stale cooking fat, and there was a strong urine odour in the separate toilet off the kitchen. The toilet looked clean, but the smell seemed stuck in the tiles and skirting boards. My partner also found the room cold and was unhappy with the smell and the kitchen’s condition. I messaged the owner at 22:49 about the temperature and smells, but heard back only the next morning, after we had left. We tried calling and messaging again without a response. I had arrived at 21:30 and Cheryl asked for payment straight away, before I could inspect the room. I understand that may be the policy, but guests should have a chance to see whether the room meets their expectations before paying. The radiator was on at first, then went cold within an hour, and the duvet wasn’t warm enough. I had to leave to warm up and collect my partner from the airport at midnight; we couldn’t stay in the room. I was surprised by the property’s generally positive reviews, since my experience was so different. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone wanting clean, fresh-smelling accommodation. It was the worst place I’ve ever stayed, and I hope this feedback helps. I stayed at The Copper Coin on 28/12/24.

We had a very enjoyable stay and would return. The owners gave us a lovely welcome, and our room was private and self-contained, set off the side of the house. Breakfast was continental and we could eat whenever we liked at the little kitchen table.

A very well-run place, relaxing and close to the airport. There are pubs nearby for dining.
