We found it a great base for exploring the area, and all the staff were welcoming and hospitable. The bedroom was spacious, clean and well appointed. On hot nights, though, the historic charm made it harder to sleep well. There were old sash windows beside a busy road and no air conditioning, so the Dyson fan was working hard to keep us cool. I'd still recommend a stay. We were there for two nights.

We had two wonderful meals, one in the restaurant and one in the pub, and the service was amazing. The Hayloft room had everything we needed, plus an enormous bathroom. The gardens are beautifully kept, and eating breakfast outside was such a treat. A perfect hotel in a perfect location.

The staff were kind throughout our one-night stay, and they even left a birthday card for my husband, which was so thoughtful. We were in the Hayloft Barn Suite for his 40th, and the room was beautiful and clean. The food was fantastic, and when I booked G&T afternoon tea as a surprise, they provided alternatives because we don't drink. I'd highly recommend staying here. We'll certainly book again.

Breakfast was first class, but the rest of the experience was very poor. I paid £430 for a Sunday night, including an allowance for dinner and continental breakfast. I was offered two twin rooms and told Alder 2, with its refurbished bathroom, was the better one. If that bathroom had been refurbished, I dread to think what it was like before. The grime around the shower door bottom, room corners and floor grouting was disgraceful. During a long booking conversation, I was somehow talked out of the hotel restaurant and into booking the pub next door, which had been made to sound cosy and casual. It was the opposite, with no character and almost empty. The meal was poor quality and cost £101, which was a joke. Drinks were about £10. They offered future discounts, but nothing would persuade me to return. A ripoff!

The room was stunning, and the atmosphere was lovely and relaxed. We were celebrating a 30th birthday, and the staff had left champagne and a handwritten card in the room, such a nice touch. Breakfast was delicious and everywhere was spotless. We had the most perfect stay. Can't recommend it enough.
