The Tree Inn

The menu had plenty of appealing options, but the food didn’t live up to it. The pies were very nice, though without gravy on the side they were quite dry. The vegetarian korma was basic, with hardly any white beans visible and no real korma sauce. I couldn’t taste coconut in the rice either. The garlic chicken tasted nice, but the plate was mostly pearl barley and sweetcorn, and the garlic overpowered the other flavours. I couldn’t see the cream sauce mentioned on the menu, and eventually gave up on the dry barley and sweetcorn.

The bathrooms are separate from the rooms, and breakfast is a help-yourself setup using whatever’s in the kitchen. It all suits the relaxed, homely feel. We weren’t sure what to make of the place at first because it’s different from a usual stay, but its character and quirky charm won us over. We had a drink in the bar before checking in, then another after coming back from Bude that night. The staff were warm and chatty, and we had such a lovely time. It doesn’t try to be perfect, just genuine. We’d definitely stay again.

The Tree Inn is full of history, and the landlord runs it how a British pub should be run. We had a brilliant Saturday afternoon here. The staff were extremely friendly, and while the Rugby was on TV they even brought us complimentary chips and chicken wings. Thanks for having us. We’ll certainly see you again.
