We attended an evening wedding event, so accommodation wasn’t relevant. The venue was very clean, with an easy wheelchair-accessible entrance and loo. There was a good atmosphere, the DJ took requests and played a wide range of music, and the buffet was excellent. I’m local, and if someone asked me to recommend a holiday site with self-catering, bar food and breakfasts available for an extra charge so you pay as you eat, I’d suggest Lakeside.

We were there for a boys’ rugby tour arranged through the rugby tour company, which is important context. If all you want is to travel to the site and stare at a lake, more like a pond, this is the place for you 😂. You expect a certain standard from a caravan park, but this place felt like a trip back in time. We saw the funny side at first, but stopping under-18s from joining the evening entertainment when several junior rugby teams were staying there was a poor choice. The clubhouse staff had two speeds, slow and stop. There’s no shop and nothing for people to do, especially children. It was pretty bleak, and we were glad to have two days of rugby to keep us occupied. I don’t like giving one-star reviews, but I can’t give this place more, especially for the price. The rugby agency should reconsider who they partner with, since the site is far from suitable when they know children will be coming. P.S. Sorry I didn’t take many photos. There wasn’t much to photograph, except the toilet sign our friend thought was funny 😂.

We arrived on time at No 166 Static caravan and found someone else going in! The so-called Customer Service gave a very begrudging apology, and the other guests moved back to their caravan. The whole thing seemed very dodgy, and they didn’t even say sorry. They grabbed the linen we’d paid for and left after a few words. The New owners need to get their act together. It was the worst holiday ever: there were lawn mowers, and nobody wanted to help. If you do go, avoid 166. Everyone cuts through there, even though you pay an extra £60 for a parking space. Check the duvets and pillows, and take your own. This used to be a lovely, calming place. Such a shame. I’ll never go back. I think Falty Towers was better than this.

Hugh and the team made this a great break away. The bar and restaurant prices were good value, and all areas were clean. Nothing was too much trouble. The fishing lakes were a bonus for carp catches. I’d recommend this quiet, friendly site.

The caravan was spotless inside, but the single glazing made it cold. There was no central heating, just one electric heater in the living room. The room heaters provided were no use, and each morning and after a day out we had to stay bundled up in coats and hats for about an hour while it warmed up. The shower was small too. There were only two sockets in the living area, taken up by the kettle and toaster, though the main bedroom had four. I stay in static caravans two or three times a year for work and have done for nearly 10 years. I'd never been given one with single glazing before. It was a cheap seven day break, but I can see why.
