The staff made a huge difference to our stay at Higher Trapp. Everyone was friendly, informative, and so helpful, from the cleaners to reception and bar staff. We left feeling really relaxed and would definitely come back for this lovely local couples’ retreat. We booked the inclusive Bubbles Break in a four poster suite. It came with an evening meal, breakfast, a hot tub experience, and the residents’ bar open from 6-11 pm. We also paid for a late checkout at 12 pm. Since we were using the hot tub at 1 pm, the hotel offered us free early check-in at 2 pm, though our room was ready even earlier. The evening food was amazing, with £25 to spend, enough for two courses, and extras could go on the bill. The package’s house white was a gorgeous Chardonnay that retails for £12.50 a bottle. I’m a happy wine lover and plan to buy it again! We also had a glass of prosecco in the gorgeous hot tub. Our room was massive, with a super comfortable four poster bed, a nice bathroom, a big bathtub, a separate walk-in shower, lovely original features, and breathtaking views. I heard the rooms are due for a redecoration upgrade soon, so it’d be nice to return and see the new themes. One easy improvement would be adding a dongle to the TVs so guests can sign in to streaming services like Netflix. The TVs and Wi-fi would support it, and it would make a big difference.

The breakfast and location were great, and the breakfast staff were lovely. But I definitely won’t stay there again. Avoid room 31. It was a very tired room in the old porch of an annex building, and it needs a full refurbishment. The floor wasn’t clean, the small decorative cushions on the bed were stained, and the old double bed sagged. The room was very cold, so they provided two extra heaters, but only one worked. There was no housekeeping on the second day.

We loved the relaxing Lounge before and after dinner, and the food was delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly, and our exceptionally clean room had a very comfortable bed. We had a great one-night stay with our dog Fergus in the annex, where we could park right outside the room. The grounds are lovely, and Fergus enjoyed racing around to burn off energy after our six-hour drive from Dorset. We stay in UK hotels regularly for business, and dog-friendly places are a top priority for us. The Higher Trappe will be a favourite from now on. My one suggestion for hotels with dog rooms is to provide a mini fridge for wet food. Thanks to the whole team for such a relaxing stay.

The rooms were clean and had a Nespresso machine, and even with a wedding going on the staff kept residents served efficiently. We had a lovely stay on the all-inclusive package. The staff were brilliant, the food was excellent, and there’s a nice beer garden in lovely surroundings. Highly recommended!

We had a fabulous time, and we’ll be back. The hotel and grounds are stunning, with a beautiful traditional look. There were a lot of us staying overnight with family for one night, but to keep it short, everything was clean, the staff were very friendly, and the food and bar were spot on.
