Y Castell Hotel

On a very wet day in Caernarfon, I stopped in for morning coffee. The welcome at the bar was so friendly, and I was glad to warm up by the fire. I really appreciated it.

The view was fantastic, and the staff were friendly. The room was excellent, though a little noisy, which I expected since it's a working bar and the website explains that.

I made a mild complaint about my red wine because it tasted as though it had been open for a long time. The two women behind the bar were unhelpful and extremely rude, telling me, “Just pay and go.” I've never had bar staff speak to me with that kind of rude, aggressive attitude in my 62 years. After reading other reviews, it seems plenty of people have had a similar experience. ☹️

The location is fantastic and the bed was comfortable. The room was about what you'd expect for an inexpensive stay in a pub. The shower had an old individual water heater, with weak pressure and a temperature that was incredibly hard to control. They record most bookings in a ledger, and after I arrived the manager knocked on my door and said I had to leave because they couldn't find my reservation. It turned out they'd made a mistake. If you've booked through a third-party agency, keep the confirmation email handy in case their ledger has an error.
