For under 50 quid a night, it was decent value for visiting friends. The decor was nice and the bathroom fittings looked new and shiny. The room was clean, though the shower could've been cleaner. The bed won't suit sensitive sleepers, the fridge wasn't worth having, and the TV was kind of pointless.

There was nowhere to leave a bike, and the traffic outside was loud. The room had no curtains or carpets, only a few sockets and they were badly placed. The door wouldn't lock because a screw was coming out. No shower gel or shampoo, a broken cabinet light and small towels.

This was the only time in 15 years of travelling as an adult that I've had to leave a hotel. The room itself had problems too: the fridge was broken and dripping water, a mirror on the dresser was coming apart, and the toilet wouldn't flush. I could've put up with those things, but the noise was unbearable, and the owner seemed to care only about the money. I left, booked another hotel and disputed the charge with my credit card company. Buyer beware. I should've paid attention to the negative reviews. The owner, Mr. Gregory, was also the hotel clerk and apparently lived there. When I arrived, he was on the phone with British social services, apparently trying to arrange a personal benefit for himself, not the hotel. He didn't end the call to check me in, just carried on talking while going through the motions. He'd moved me from a single to a double room, but that room was on the ground floor beside the front desk, office, owner's living room and breakfast room, all in the same space. There was no sound insulation. For the next three hours I heard him talking loudly on the phone, watching TV at high volume and speaking with guests asking to change rooms. The front desk buzzer was inches from my door. It was one of the loudest doorbells I've heard, a sharp buzz meant to carry across a large building. After a few hours, it seemed clear I'd be kept awake until the latest guest and woken by the earliest one. I told the owner I couldn't sleep there and needed another room. He said none were available, apparently because other guests had also asked to change rooms. I said it wasn't acceptable and asked for a refund, even offering to pay for that night and get the remaining three nights refunded. He refused.

My stay here was very bad. The place was a scam, and it was very dirty everywhere, including the rooms and restaurant. The owner, Mr Gregory, was rude and unprofessional. Does anyone know if I can file an official complaint with the British authority for hotels and accommodation?

A really poor experience. I told the guy I was running late, about 25 minutes later than I'd said. When I arrived, he wouldn't let me stay. Then he refused to give me a refund. I complained to the company he uses, but they said they couldn't do anything if he refused. I'm so annoyed. I won't book through Agoda again either.
