The shower door didn't reach the tray, so water leaked onto the floor, and the carpet by the shower room was wet. Paint was peeling off the windowsill, and someone in our party couldn't adjust the shower's very high temperature. But the worst issue for me was my tiny shower room full of hundreds of cluster flies. There were about ten in the morning when I told reception, and they said they'd deal with it. They didn't. When I came back that evening, there were maybe 100 or more. They had no fly spray and offered me mould spray instead. I didn't think that would work, and dealing with it wasn't my job. There wasn't another room for me, but luckily someone in our party let me share theirs. We'd booked eight rooms for two nights. Some flies got out into the stairwell and into a few other rooms. I received a partial refund for the flies, but since two of us were disrupted, I feel they could have done more.

I don't usually write reviews, but for its category this is probably one of the best hotels I've stayed in in the UK. The pluses mattered more to me than the drawbacks. The bathroom was short on space, and a few things, like the curtains, looked a bit shabby. On the good side, the location was convenient and the price reasonable. There was a nice dining room and cooking area, a spacious double bed even in the economy room, hot water in the bathroom, good Wi-Fi, bottles of water, and all the toiletries. The reception staff gave a warm welcome, cleaning was regular, and they had a clear late-checkout policy, with the kind offer to stay an extra 1.5 hours.

The kitchen was nice, and the room and towels were clean. I'm 6'2" and 225 lb, so the tiny room and bath, where I could barely move, were a squeeze. The carpets looked like they might date back to the 16th century. The bed in room 3 was my biggest complaint, totally rubbish. We barely slept during our two nights, and now my sciatica is acting up. This could be a nice little hotel if the owners gave it a bit more care and attention. But if you can't sleep because the bed is bad, what's the point? It was the worst place we stayed in during our two weeks in England. I'd never book it again.
