The Lord Byron Inn

It’s a very quiet spot with ample free parking, a couple of miles from central Cambridge. We walked into town, though the PR3 bus also stops just around the corner on Maris Lane. The bedrooms are in a separate building, reached under a roof so you don’t get wet. Our room had two twin beds and a good-sized shower room. The shower wasn’t great, but there was plenty of hot water. The air-conditioning unit also works as a very efficient heater. We’d definitely stay again. The pub itself is full of character, with low ceilings, beams, two floor levels, three fireplaces and lovely wood-panelled walls. The bar has a great drinks selection, served by friendly staff. We ate dinner there both nights and had different staff each time, all happy to chat. On Friday we both had cod and chips with crushed minted peas, which was delicious and a good-sized portion. My husband had sticky toffee pudding with custard. On Saturday we shared camembert with red onion chutney and toast. I had steak pie with chips and vegetables, while my husband chose chicken and bacon tagliatelle. Everything was delicious again.

The pub is lovely, with a huge beer garden that’s great for families and bigger groups. Service was excellent, friendly and informative. The food was pretty average pub grub, though. My burger was quite dry, and the pie was just okay, nothing special.

My son took me here for a meal on Mother’s Day. The food was very nice, and the staff were so lovely. The service was amazing, and they went out of their way to please us, even making me a floater coffee that isn’t normally on the menu. We had lovely desserts too.

I’ve been here a couple of times now. The staff are friendly and really helpful, and the chef/cook is fantastic. The food tastes lovely and is presented with care. Maybe the best kids’ meals in the area? Prices are reasonable too.
