The Drovers Arms

I was there for work and wasn’t sure what to expect after reading some mixed reviews. The hotel is under new ownership, and the place was spotless. The people running it gave top-notch service. My room was newly decorated and immaculately clean, the bed was really comfortable, and the bamboo pillows were out of this world. The bathroom was a little dated but spotless too. The heating worked so well I had to turn it right down, and the hot water was properly hot, so no worries about a cold shower. Breakfast was brilliant. I had the small one and it was plenty; the large would have wiped me out for the day, so good luck if you try it. On mornings when work meant I couldn’t eat there, they made me a hot sandwich with crisps, fruit, and a drink to take along. Another mark of excellent service. I can’t really comment on the pub or evening meals, since those weren’t open in January, though the breakfast quality makes me expect good things. The TV signal was a very slight issue, coming and going a bit. I’m genuinely gutted I haven’t been able to return, but it’s been fully booked since, which doesn’t surprise me.

Jason was always around to help and give advice about the area, and the breakfast was wonderful if you like a traditional cooked one. The location is right in town, yet my room was very quiet. There was plenty of hot water and heating, actually too warm for me, but I could switch off the radiator and open the window. The room had plenty of tea and coffee to top up if needed. It was nice having a separate eating area away from the bar, and free parking was a huge bonus. WiFi was only available in public areas, though they said they were fitting boosters to extend it to rooms the following month. I’d definitely stay again.

We had a really lovely evening in a place with a wonderful atmosphere throughout. The welcome was fabulous, and breakfast was spectacular. We’d definitely book again. Next time we’ll make sure to book Sunday lunch too, it looked fantastic. Kay & David Aubrey

My stay was wonderful, and I’ll be back. The staff were so welcoming, the rooms warm and cosy, and they were quiet, with super comfortable beds, pristine white bedding and towels, and a great shower. They also provided body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and a well-stocked tea and coffee setup with snacks. Breakfast was top notch, and the quaint little pub downstairs was lovely. It’s a beautiful, newly refurbished, immaculate hotel and really deserves at least three stars.
