The kitchen looked dirty and disorganized, and the stair railings felt greasy and sticky. You could smell fryer grease as soon as you walked in. Breakfast in the morning was questionable, and the electrics in the third-floor room seemed questionable too. Please avoid this place.

The Copper Kettle was a great stay. My room was very clean and really nice quality, and the area was peaceful. Breakfast was tasty and included at no charge. The service was excellent, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Six of us wanted a hearty meal that wouldn't cost too much, and that's exactly what we found, even though we weren't staying at the Copper Kettle. For £9.75, you got all three courses: soup, steak and kidney pie with spuds and veg, then syrup sponge and custard. Proper food like your grandma might make. The couple who've run the restaurant for 47 years were delightful and lovely to chat with. If you're nearby, give it a try.

A lovely meal, with prices that feel like they're from 20 years ago. Lovely couple too.

If you're after modern grey, Mrs Hinch-style corporate decor, this probably isn't your place. For a comfy, happy stay full of nostalgia, though, it's lovely. The hosts were wonderful, everything was clean and tidy, and the place has loads of charm. It feels like going back in time, in a comforting way, with Argos catalogues and lemon sherbets like the dog's B's. The portions are generous, the boarding prices even better, and the beds and bathroom are clean and comfortable. Yes, the bathroom is outdated, but that's part of the point. I don't understand the bad reviews. What you see is what you get.
