Seacoast Cottage

The location is so good we’d give it six stars if we could. There are ocean views, old castles and magnificent cliffs nearby, and the first golf fairway is right outside the living room window. It’s easy to get to Castlerock and public transport. The host communicated excellently, and check-in and check-out were simple. The place was comfortable, clean and well equipped.

We’ve stayed at Seacoast Cottage twice now and can’t wait to return. It’s immaculate, thanks to Eileen, beautifully decorated and so comfortable, with everything you could need. The detached house even has a lovely dog-friendly garden. We had privacy and quiet despite being in the heart of beautiful Castlerock, and the changing views over the golf course to the sea are stunning. Cafes, a local Spar, Castlerock Beach and the train station are all within walking distance, with the station about five minutes away. We liked The Loft. The North Coast is brilliant for exploring too: Bishop's Gate and Mussenden are five minutes by car, and Benone and Downhill beaches, Portstewart and Portrush are nearby in the other direction. Coleraine, with Sainsbury's and M&S, is about 15 minutes away. We drove around, but the cottage is also handy for the train. This was our second visit to Seacoast Cottage, and it was just as good. The lounge, kitchen and two bedrooms have beautiful sea views, and the beach, cafes, corner shop, bakery and train station are all within walking distance. The house is fully equipped, from a bucket and spade for our toddler to a Nespresso coffee machine for the sleep-deprived parents. Eileen and the owners gave us a warm welcome and said they were on hand if anything wasn’t quite right. There was a welcome basket with treats for everyone, even the dog, and the place was cleaned to perfection. Booking a self-catering stay can leave you wondering whether everything will be okay, but Seacoast Cottage was perfect.

We were so impressed this year that we booked again straight away for next year. Back again in 2023, and everything I said before still applies. It’s a family home set up for a family holiday, recently refurbished to a high standard, with top-spec gadgets and furnishings and a superb kitchen looking out over the magnificent coastline. It isn’t the cheapest place around, but it’s well worth paying extra compared with the ordinary average. Absolutely fabulous, and I can’t wait to get back!
