The Caduceus - Private Cabins

We stayed Saturday 16/10/21 after a day at Thorpe park, and it was a warm, comfortable night for very little money. The rooms were clean with fresh bedding, and the place did what it promised. Two very large dogs live there and can look intimidating, but they were both sweethearts who wanted lots of fuss. I gave them plenty. One of the female owners, whom we met when leaving, was friendly and lovely. I didn't catch her name. It's not the Ritz, but you get more than you pay for, and it works well if you're on a budget and need a warm bed. The old building's floors squeaked wherever we walked, which is my only small gripe. We were a group of five and will stay again. I'd recommend it as a cheap, functional overnight stay.

We left after only ten minutes because the room felt uncomfortable and looked nothing like the photos. The shower was dirty, there was hair and dirt on the floor, and there was mould or grime in a corner. We could hear workers downstairs, and construction was going on throughout the place. We were told there had been a fire a couple of days earlier. It was also hard to find when we arrived. A woman was rude on the phone when we called for directions on how to get in, though she seemed nice enough in person. We told her it wasn't what we'd expected and handed back the key, but she didn't seem to care. She opened the gate before we could leave, then we had to wait and call her to open it again. She hung up on us. Wouldn't recommend.

The rating reflects the good value as well as how clean the accommodation was. I slept very well in a comfortable king bed. Tea and coffee are provided, but there aren't many extras. There are a few dogs, so bear that in mind if you have a canine phobia. They're harmless, though, and wander off once they realise you're friendly.

Such a peaceful, quiet place with top-notch service. The family works incredibly hard.
