Base Serviced Apartments - City Road

This was the worst place I've stayed. I booked an apartment for a week, but they gave me a tiny room instead. When I asked the property manager, they said no apartments were available because everything was booked. They told me I could stay in an upgraded one only on the last night, then scammed me again on the final day.

Check-in was quick and hassle-free, even though there were no staff around when I arrived at about 10pm. The entrance is right beside the main road, and I was given clear instructions for opening the simple key box and collecting the key. The room wasn't huge, but there was enough space to move around. The toilet and shower are separate, which is rare and handy. It was clean enough, the room was quiet, and the big bed was clean and very comfortable. Thumbs up. I'd come back at this price.

For the price, I was happy with what we got. The accommodation was close to Chester's main street and a very short walk from the city centre, a nice big park, and the city walls. I couldn't have found anything better at that price. The room was tiny, but I knew that before booking and only needed it for sleeping. The entry instructions, WiFi password, and other important information were provided, and check-in and checkout were clear. I only have two suggestions. I'm 155cm tall, and without my partner I wouldn't have been able to reach the fan switches above the toilet door, right under the ceiling. Why put them there? Also, there's nowhere in the toilet to put toothpaste, cream, face wash, or anything like that. A small shelf would cost only a few pounds and help a lot. That's all. I was happy with my choice.

The room smelled bad, like alcohol left by previous guests, and the floorboards need fixing. Expensive for what you get. They took the deposit quickly without telling us before booking, then made us wait days to get it back.
