The location is brilliant and the place was exceptionally clean. I usually stay at the Premier Inn on City Rd, and honestly wish I had this time too. The ladies at reception were lovely, but I’ve never stayed in a hotel that didn’t provide hand soap in the bathroom. I asked twice and was left a mug of that peppery smelling shower gel instead. Looking at earlier reviews, it seems they just don’t bother with soap. I wish they’d been upfront about it, so I could have popped to Home Bargains nearby.

We slept well, and the location was ideal for exploring the city. The room was small but did the job, and it was easy to adjust the temperature. It didn’t seem to be staffed all the time, but the staff we met were warm and happy to help. A decent Travelodge.

Good value for a central place, with clean rooms at a good price. There’s no parking, though you can get discounted parking nearby. The bus and train stations are within walking distance, as is nearly everything you might want to see.

The reception staff were lovely, and for the price you get what you pay for. The rooms are compact and only cleanish, probably fine for one night, but I wouldn’t come back. Handwash was empty in all three rooms we booked, there wasn’t enough toilet paper, and the pillows were awful. Popcorn played loud music until 2am, other guests woke me at 4am, then a brewery delivery woke me again at 5.45am. Bring your own toilet paper.

Generally just bad, and the Travelodge down the road is a lot better. The bed felt like concrete, and there was no normal tea, only Earl Grey. We had no bath mat, so the bathroom floor got soaked, and the bedside USB ports didn’t work. There were two plug sockets on the table, at least. The worst part by far was the horrific noise from the bar below and the one across the road, which went on until 3am. There’s no way you’ll get a good night’s sleep unless you slip into a coma.
