Shepherds Barn

I want to be fair about why I’ve rated the barn poorly. The description has some inaccuracies. It’s a very small space attached to the large farmhouse. It’s been fitted out and equipped well, and the website does make clear that you sleep in the eaves. The shower is nice, though it isn’t a huge rain shower. There can be a damp smell throughout the small space. There’s an outdoor sitting area, but it isn’t a garden with views. It’s pebbled, looking onto a beech hedge with some wooded land beyond. The bigger issue is that the farmhouse can also be rented, and that wasn’t made clear. The claim that this is a romantic getaway for two becomes misleading if the house is being rented at the same time. When we arrived, a group of 12 had rented the house for the weekend and expected to enjoy it without anyone else there. They were very apologetic and said they’d been told the same thing. We hadn’t known either. By 1am, after listening to their party, we had to speak to them about the noise. It was upsetting for both parties. We left the next day after the owner refunded us, then had to find somewhere else to stay for the week at very short notice. Our holiday was completely spoiled. Guests need to know this could happen, and I wish the owner had let us know in advance. We would certainly have cancelled and searched elsewhere while there was more time to arrange suitable accommodation.
