The location was the only good thing about our stay at the Vincent lodge. We spent three nights there, and the room was extremely dirty, with thick dust and cobwebs, grimy surfaces and door handles, stained carpet and mould in the shower. I had brought antibacterial wipes and cleaned everything before my son could touch the surfaces. With Covid 19 around, I expected accommodation to be properly cleaned and sanitised. The breakfast room was dirty too, with crumbs on tables and chairs and dust and cobwebs everywhere. The breakfast we’d been promised was another disappointment. If cereal or dry bread is enough for you, you might be fine. On the first morning, Charlie rushed in with a few slices of bread and a pot of yogurt. There were small jam packets, milk and orange juice on the serving table. She offered coffee, which I politely declined, and I asked for a napkin. She returned with one scrunched-up napkin, then left to take her little one to nursery. There was no full English breakfast like the reviews I’d read before booking had praised, no fresh pastry or fruit like the website pictures showed, and not even butter. The next morning there was nothing but jars of cereal, and the following day there was nothing either. Where was the breakfast we’d paid for? I’d been reassured by all the positive reviews that Vincent lodge was the best place to stay, so I can’t understand how our experience was so bad. Have standards slipped that much, or were we just unlucky? I left very disappointed and upset. Based on our stay, I wouldn’t recommend this B&B or return.
