High Street Hostel

The location is spot on, and the laundry costs 5 pounds with same-day return. There's a nice shared space and kitchen, and the hostel is very clean and social. They organize an event every night with some other hostels, so it's a good way to meet people if you're travelling alone or as a pair. For solo travellers, I found this more fun than its sister hostel, the Royal Mile Backpacker down the block. I'd recommend it to anyone.

The rooms were comfortable and had enough space to avoid feeling cramped. I also loved the lounge setup, with its decor and different spots to hang out, including the area by reception. The nightly events made meeting people easy. It was a fun, welcoming place to stay, and I'd highly recommend it.

Booking through the website was easy, and the staff were helpful whenever I dealt with them. The hostel is in a good location in a safe area. Cleanliness was acceptable, though it could have been better. My main concern was how many guests shared the facilities: I stayed in a 10-bed room, and there were at least five bedrooms on our floor, but only two sinks and a low number of toilets and showers. The sink, toilet, and shower facilities were shared by the whole floor. There was also a terrible, unpleasant smell at floor level.

One of the best hostels I've stayed at. It's in a great location, has activities every night, and a decent shared kitchen. Like much of Scotland, the building is old, but it's well maintained.
