The Old School, Idbury, OX7 6RU

We had two lovely days at The old school and would absolutely return for another quiet getaway. The setting and views are beautiful, and Jenny was welcoming and attentive. Everything was clean, tidy and well kept, and the bed was very comfy. The small bottle of their own distilled gin, a sheet with local, honest information, and verbal recommendations for places to eat were all superb touches. Breakfast was lovely too, with the same perfect attention to detail. I could go on about how good the stay was. Can't thank them enough.

We had a fabulous two night stay at the Old School, Idbury, from 9-11 August 2024. We had the ground floor of a gorgeous cottage in beautiful Cotswold countryside, a very quiet and relaxing spot. The room was large, nicely decorated and extremely clean, with our own bathroom and shower. The bed was so comfortable that we slept really well. Jenny and John were extremely friendly hosts. I chatted quite a lot with John, who has a very interesting history. Breakfast both mornings was plentiful, fresh and very nice. There was hot coffee in a cafetiere, milk, toast, crumpets, toasted raisin bread, several cheeses, including extra blue cheese Jenny kindly provided, jam, marmalade, yoghurt and a wonderful fruit platter. I hope I remembered it all. We couldn't finish it. On the second morning, we had breakfast in the garden, which was glorious. Jenny gave us her homemade bramble gin when we arrived and again on the second day. It was gorgeous, and we enjoyed the thoughtful gesture, though I wish I could have finished it both days. We had to be sensible about driving. Before we left, John kindly offered us an extra night. It was really hard to refuse, but unfortunately my wife had to return to work the next day. We appreciated the offer very much and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Old School, Idbury, or return on a future Cotswolds visit.

Those thoughtful extras in the room and the lovely breakfast made our weekend feel extra special. My partner and I were welcomed so warmly, and we'd absolutely love to come back.

The Old School is in a quiet village, Idbury, right in the Cotswolds, with most attractions within 10 miles. Our hosts were friendly, and the two dogs were lovely. I'd recommend it without hesitation.
