Breakfast and the staff serving it were great. They were polite, cheerful and enthusiastic. This is a BnB, so check-in, gate and parking instructions come after booking. One issue: Room 1 is right by the road and a traffic light, and it’s extremely noisy. If you’re assigned it on the morning you arrive, ask to switch.

We booked two rooms for last weekend. The location was fantastic, everyone was very friendly, and breakfast was absolutely fabulous. The courtyard rooms are especially worth booking.

The breakfast was beautifully cooked, and the friendly staff brought me smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, toast and a cafetière of strong coffee. I had a lovely one-night stay at The Old Brewhouse in a Courtyard room. I walk with two sticks and found access easy. The room was very quiet, with a king-size bed, soft mattress and pillows, fluffy white towels and a modern, large walk-in shower. Really, it had everything I wanted. I highly recommend The Old Brewhouse.

We arrived at the time in the email, but the place seemed deserted and another guest had to let us in. After I waited a while, I called the owner and was told our room was Room 4. It was tiny, tucked into the eaves and up several flights of stairs. The bathroom was about the size of an airplane toilet. I’m 5ft 4in and hit my head on the beams over the bed twice. There was nobody to speak to, and the whole thing felt like living in the cupboard under the stairs in Harry Potter. The clothes rail for three garments was in an alcove behind the bed and bedside table, so you had to climb over things to reach it. It wasn’t quaint or cute, just suffocating. The experience was terrible, and we left the next day before breakfast.

I spent three nights here on my own and was put in Room 4, which had a double bed and en-suite bathroom, just right for me. The location is handy, with easy walks and a bus stop down the street, and you’re not far from much. Breakfast really is as good as people say, and there’s plenty of it. The staff are kind and take great care of the BnB. A couple of things to know: the top rooms have low beams and walls, and can feel a bit cramped, so they may be uncomfortable if you’re tall. The building is also on a street corner and can get some noise, though earplugs and a closed window sorted it for me. Even so, I’d highly recommend staying here.
