Brookfield Hotel

No breakfast was the main drawback. I was also woken at 3:45am when someone next door slammed their door, so I wouldn’t recommend it for families, though that wasn’t the hotel’s fault. The room itself was lovely and comfortable, and the price was cheap and cheerful. The main reception feels dated and dull. I wasn’t sure what to expect after reading earlier reviews.

Quite nice for the price, and handy if you want to visit the royal armoury museum. A note for other foreigners: I misunderstood and thought an “English breakfast” meant a continental breakfast, but it means tea. That was my mistake.

The cigarette smell was the reason I can’t rate this place higher. Why run a hotel and smoke in it? The rooms were clean and a good size, the bed was comfy, the location just outside the centre was good, and the staff were friendly. The shower temperature swung from uncomfortably hot to scalding.

The staff were friendly, but calling this budget is being kind. Walking in, the stale cigarette smell was really bad, and the hotel wasn’t very clean. My room was okay but poorly kept, with no food or toiletries. The shower leaked across the floor, and the lights flickered. It was cold, then the heating came on for an hour and made it too hot. With single-glazed windows, the rumbling traffic came through easily.
